Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (July 10, 1942 – August 8, 2023) was an American musician from Detroit, Michigan, whose two early-1970s folk-rock albums flopped in the U.S. but became cult favorites and bestsellers in apartheid-era South Africa, unbeknownst to him. His story was later told in the 2012 Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man, sparking a late-career revival with reissues, international tours from 1998 to 2021, and cementing his influence on music and culture.
